A California based company asked us if we could produce port and JIC fittings with M14 threads for their new drone delivery system. We said YES!
Non Standard Metric Threads are No Problem
The customer's application required us to design custom adapters for their new prototype delivery drone's fuel system. Due to the large size of the payload this drone is to transport, the drone is powered by a jet fuel engine. The port sizes for the fuel system range in size from M10X1.0, M12X1.0. M14X1.0 to M16X1.0. Additionally, there are metric flare connections that are 37 degree with M14X1.0 threads as well as standard AN sizes.
We were able to take the customer's hand sketches of concept fittings, and translate them into viable adapters we could machine out of 7075 aluminum. Harness wire holes needed to drilled into the hex, and the construction of non brazed aluminum tee fittings engineered. The results were beautiful right down to the blue anodized finish. Hose assemblies made from stainless R14 hose were fabricated using custom turned stems we designed to work with the M14 JIC connections, as well as -4 and -6 AN connections.
HFI produced extra parts hoping that this design will take off (no pun intended) and we can fulfill future requirements for these unique metric aerospace adapters.
